About Newmarket, Ontario Real Estate

A historic and modern blend of life for young and old alike.
Founded in 1801, Newmarket's original roots were those of a Quaker settlement and a fur trading post. As a farmer's market for the area, the town was not only a center for agriculture but grew to include small industries and commerce. Newmarket was incorporated in 1880.
Today, Newmarket includes many great residential neighbourhoods including Woodland Hill, Glenway Estates, and Stonehaven. While there are many older heritage estates in town, much of its housing was developed starting post-WWII and nearly every decade since. There are a lot of single-family homes here, but newer developments have also incorporated townhomes into the landscape.

What to Love

  • Dedication to Newmarket's history
  • Always something to do for the whole family
  • An abundance of dining and shopping options
  • Parks, greenspaces, and surrounding farmland

Local Lifestyle

Rich in history, Newmarket today retains its historical downtown area and continues to support locally owned shops, restaurants, and businesses. It is larger than some of the neighboring communities with a population of about 90,000. Newmarket is considered a great place to raise a family with such a variety of activities and fun things to do. Because of its size, just about anything you need is available in Newmarket, but other big city amenities are just a short drive away from Toronto.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

One of the best shopping malls in the Ontario area is the Upper Canada Mall right here in Newmarket. For accessories and eyewear, children's clothes and adult fashion, housewares, home furnishings, and gifts, you are sure to find most anything at Upper Canada Mall. If you need to stop for a meal, you can find lunch or an early supper here too, or grab dinner to take home.
For an authentic Italian dinner visit Joia on Main. Brothers Marco and Eugenio opened their first restaurant in Aurora in 1997. Recently, they expanded to their second location here in Newmarket. They often return to Italy for some inspiration for new dishes to add to the menu and visit Italian wineries to scout out new offerings to add to their extensive wine list. Hours may vary depending on the season.
For a cozy dinner for two, or to meet up with friends, The Keg Steakhouse offers fine dining with some of the best steaks and seafood in the area. Appetizers here include escargot, calamari, and baked garlic shrimp. The Keg Steakhouse is open for dinner, seven days a week.

Things to Do

Seasonally, from May through October, the Newmarket Farmer's Market is held every Saturday. Located in the Newmarket Riverwalk Commons, at the corner of Doug Duncan and Timothy St., the market is reminiscent of the city's past. Here you will find some 50 vendors offering fresh fruits and vegetables, honey and syrups, fresh bakery products, pet foods and dog treats, fresh flowers, skin products, crafts, and prepared foods.
The Newmarket Riverwalk Commons is also home to many other events including the Water Feature during the summer months and the Tim Hortons Skating Rink in winter. It also features special events including the TD Newmarket Music Series, Moonlight Movies, and Tim Hortons Canada Day festivities.
Open year-round and located near the Farmers' Market in the heart of Newmarket's downtown, Fairy Lake Park lies along the banks of the lake, created by early settlers to accompany their mill. Here you will find playgrounds, picnic areas, and walking trails for the whole family. The 13.4 hectares of park are also home to Wesley Brooks Conservation Area with its marshland and waterways.
