Local Lifestyle

While now considered somewhat urban through a continual rise in growth, Bradford West Gwillimbury continues to overlook the fertile farmland surrounding it. The community is tight-knit and active. The average residents are in their late 30s, along with a lot of children and grandparents, which helps develop the township's family atmosphere.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Bradford West Gwillimbury is known for having some amazing eateries. One fairly new spot on the scene is the Brick N Fire Restaurant and Bar. Chef Dave and his wife, Dina, had worked in the culinary business together for more than 20 years before they decided to open their own restaurant. The Brick N Fire is open Wednesdays – Fridays for lunch and dinner, and Tuesdays and Saturdays for dinner only.

When looking for great Mexican Food, look no further than Hay Caramba Restaurant which has been serving up home-cooked meals for nearly two decades. If you enjoy entertainment while dining, stop in on Friday or Saturday night to enjoy the Saul Torres Band or on Sundays, to listen to well-known actor and singer Ache Hernandez. Hay Caramba is open Tuesdays – Thursdays for dinner and Fridays – Sundays for lunch and dinner.

As Bradford West Gwillimbury remains a fairly small community, there are no large shopping malls. However, there are some smaller plaza malls with a variety of stores such as Holland Street Square and West Park Plaza, each open daily although individual store hours may vary.

Things to Do

Every year the Bradford West Gwillimbury community comes together for a variety of festivals and celebrations. One such event is October's Annual Pumpkin Fest held in Henderson Memorial Park. Family fun activities include a pumpkin carving contest, coloring crafts, a Busker Pitch competition, mini golf, caricature artists, an inflatable maze and games, tractor and wagon rides, and much more.

Ringing in the holidays is the BWG Santa Claus Parade held in November. Paradegoers will view a diverse number of floats, marching bands, and more. Kids should write their letters to Santa ahead of time as helpers will be collecting them that evening. The parade route starts at the District High School and heads down Professor Day Drive to Holland, then south on Simcoe Road ending at the District Community Centre.

Speaking of the District Community Centre, here you will find the BWG Leisure Centre where locals and friends can enjoy the fitness centre with classes in Bollywood dancing, yoga, Zumba, and more. The swimming pool is available for all ages including parent & tot swim times. Enjoy a game of badminton, basketball, or pickleball in the gym. And string up your skates for some time on the ice offered through specific times set for each age group.

For those who like to head outdoors, with or without their dogs, visit the Scanlon Creek Conservation Area. Hike the trails, bring along a picnic lunch, and let Fido play in the Bark Park under your watchful eye, of course. Scanlon Creek Conservation Area is a beautiful place to enjoy wildlife and catch up on your birdwatching. Enjoy the falling leaves in autumn and the wildflowers of spring. There is also the Discovery Play Garden for the kids, an arboretum, and a native pollinator garden. The Conservation Area is open daily from dawn to dusk.
